(Manila) A recorded message from Sarangani representative Manny Pacquiao played during the anti-RH Bill rally yesterday reaffirmed his views on the controversial bill but seems to have left most people more confused than convinced.
“Kung nag-condom po ang aking ama, si Mommy D, wala pong Manny Pacquiao,” he said in the message.
(“If my dad and mom had used a condom, there wouldn’t be a Manny Pacquiao.”)
Pacquiao then went on to connect his anti-RH stand and the recent criticism of his frequent absenteeism at the House of Representatives.
“At kung wala pong Manny Pacquiao, e di mas marami akong absent sa kongreso kasi wala nga ako.” Pacqiao didn’t say. “Thanks.”
(“And if there wasn’t a Manny Pacquiao, then I’d even have more absences cos I can’t be at congress if I didn’t exist. Thanks.”)
The statements have left both sides of the RH debate stupefied which was not helped by the comments issued by the CBCP on the matter:
“I think what Manny was trying to say is that if his parents had used a condom, then they would have had an unplanned pregnancy because condoms are ineffective.” said Msgr. Dante Aborle. “But um… yes…. they could also be effective when it comes to killing the unborn… so yes… ineffective in preventing pregnancies and STDs but very effective in killing unborn babies.”
