Several Car Groups Planning to Drive Back and Forth Through Major Roads Just to Congest Traffic and Suffer Like Christ

(Manila) At least a dozen car enthusiast groups and a couple of religious organizations have revealed that they will be taking part in a new form of penitensya that involves driving around major roads just to add to traffic congestion and suffer in the process.

Two of the automobile clubs, the Honda Odyssey Owners Club (HOOC) and the Old Volks and Christian Folks, are planning to drive their vehicles northbound from Alabang through the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), EDSA, and the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) before turning back south through the same route and then repeating the whole process over and over.

“This is a good way for the entire family to suffer together,” HOOC President Jerry Santos told the Maligno Sentinel during an interview, “In the name of Christ of course.”

The group Old Volks and Christian Folks started doing “heavy traffic penitensya” since 2010 when club founder and president Maximo Bangus thought of modernizing the concept of public penance.

“This way we can show people that even though we like old Volkswagens we can also be pretty hip!” Bangus explained.

Another club, the What Would Jesus Drive? group, plans on doing the same with the added function of blaring the Pasyon through loud speakers mounted on the roofs of their cars.

“Yeah, we have at least sixty trucks and SUVs that will be deployed with loud speakers,” WWJD member Henry See explained, “each of those vehicles will have three to four members singing the Pasyon live.”

A few members of the WWJD group also explained that by adding to traffic congestion they are able to “force sinners who think of Holy Week only as vacation time to suffer like Christ.”

“It doesn’t matter whether you believe in Him or not,” WWJD member Denise Malyari explained, “He died for your sins so we are going to make you understand his passion whether you want to or not.”

The cumulative number of vehicles from the different car groups is estimated to be between 500 hundred to 800 automobiles.

Traffic congestion due to the Holy Week exodus is expected to peak on Maundy Thursday, the 16th of the month.
