(Manila) The real estate developer behind the controversial 49-storey Torre de Manila project unveiled plans to build a second structure that would similarly mar the view of the Rizal Monument in Luneta Park.
DMCI spokesman Peter Gahaman explained that the second building would be in the shape of a penis as an expression of the company’s utter disregard for the heritage and conservation groups that have voiced opposition to their Torre de Manila project.
“The new building will be called ‘Tarugo de Manila,’” Gahaman said, “it is our ‘Fu** you’ to Jose Rizal and the Filipino people.”
The DMCI spokesman also confirmed that the company has no plans of securing permits for their proposed Tarugo de Manila project.
“Let’s not kid ourselves here,” Gahaman told reporters, “We didn’t really need proper permits for the first building. And Filipinos will buy our units because they care more about condominiums than stupid things like history or heritage.”
The construction of DMCI’s Torre de Manila has been hotly contested by the Order of the Knights of Rizal as well as several heritage groups for obstructing the view of the Rizal Shrine since construction began in 2012.
Meanwhile, DMCI has repeatedly stated that construction of the first tower will continue unless the Supreme Court intervenes.
Construction of the penis building is set to begin in late 2015.
